I don't have a particular comment for the Pluglinks I ordered from Amazon because I ultimately did not need them for the install we were doing. However, I have used the exact same product in the past on another site and they worked just fine.

I actually have a very particular use for these Pluglinks and am not taking full advantage of what they offer. I use these generally on residential solar installations when we install Enphase microinverters. The microinverters and accompanying Envoy gateway (what all the microinverters talk to) operate through powerline communication. The Envoy then uses Ethernet to connect to a router and communicate back to a home server. When I find that running Ethernet would be difficult, costly, or impossible, I switch to either a wireless solution or these Pluglinks. In one old home, the ideal location for the Envoy was causing zero microinverter-Envoy communication. I slapped in the Pluglinks and away we went. As I wasn't using them for PC-to-internet access but instead an Envoy-to-router connection, I didn't even bother with the Asoka Pluglink software. They've been working fine since I installed them and I expect that to continue.

Sorry I can't comment on net performance or speeds, but they're certainly able to be used for more than PC-to-internet access!

Wireless is great, of course, but since the quality and speed degrades with distance, and your device may not have a wireless card, it's not always the catch-all solution. The Pluglink provides a clever answer to the problem of providing Internet access in a part of your house that would be too onerous to use wiring for.

All you do is plug one adapter into the router side, and then plug another into the room where you want Internet access. The two outlets use your power lines to move traffic from the router to the furthest point. The remarkable part is that the connection is really fast - I didn't experience any reduction in bandwidth (18 Mbs on my U-verse connection) or any additional latency.

It's also very easy to set up - beyond connecting the ethernet cables, there's zero configuration, and I've never seen any problems if the router is restarted. It's basically the easy way of moving a wired ethernet port from one place to another - but without the difficulty of wiring it in place.
